Downhill mountain bike racer Stevie Smith was the only Canadian to ever win a world cup overall title in the sports history. His tragic death sent shockwaves through the mountain bike community and beyond. As personal friends, we were honored to commemorate Stevie’s life through design. Using his nickname “Chainsaw”, earned for his fearless and aggressive riding style, we developed an emblem: the Canadian Shield. During the live coverage of the following World Cup, Red Bull TV held the first ever “soul run” which featured an honorary race run during Stevie’s scheduled time on the track. When the cameras arrived at the finish area, Chainsaw flag waived proudly.
